The picture on the left was taken by a friend o’ mine on a smartphone through the eye of a telescope last Thursday (sometime between 3 and 4pm), when we were privileged a view of the semi-solar eclipse. I don’t know if you can make it out, but in the middle of the white crescent there is a black spot and a smaller black spot nearby. Are they specks of dirt??? No, they are solar flares bigger than the size of the earth.

(This is a strange universe to live in.)
